About the role

We are delighted to have the opportunity to recruit to two new academic positions in the Department of Aeronautics. Our department prides itself on hosting and nurturing highly talented academics and we welcome applications from all candidates working at the cutting edge of their fields of choice. For this reason, the level and exact discipline of the post has been left open and the appointments will therefore be made dependent on your experience at the level of Lecturer (Assistant Professor), Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor), Reader (Associate Professor) or Professor.

What you would be doing

You will develop a broad range of research in your discipline, leading or contributing to a research area at the highest scientifically rigorous levels. You will apply for research funding and manage the resources (including where relevant a research team) of successful grants.

A team of researchers led by a physics graduate student recently made the surprising discovery of what they call a ‘shape-recovering liquid,’ which defies some long-held expectations derived from the laws of thermodynamics. The research details a mixture of oil, water and magnetized particles that, when shaken, always quickly separates into what looks like the classically curvaceous lines of a Grecian urn.
