The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 2.3 quake in the United States near Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California, only 13 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at 5:49 am local time at a very shallow depth of 4.5 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 2.3 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.4.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Culver City (pop. 39,700) located 2 miles from the epicenter, and Inglewood (pop. 111,700) 3 miles away. In Hawthorne (pop. 88,500, 5 miles away), Santa Monica (pop. 93,200, 6 miles away), Florence-Graham (pop. 63,400, 8 miles away), Gardena (pop. 60,400, 8 miles away), Los Angeles (pop. 3,898,700, 9 miles away), South Gate (pop. 96,400, 10 miles away), Torrance (pop. 148,500, 11 miles away), and Long Beach (pop. 474,100, 19 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred around noon on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at 1:49 pm local time near Pyrgos, Ilia Prefecture, Western Greece, Greece, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kakovatos (pop. 420) located 11 km from the epicenter, Kyparissia (pop. 5,000) 13 km away, Zacharo (pop. 5,900) 14 km away, and Philiatra (pop. 7,000) 23 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Gargalianoi (pop. 6,300) located 33 km from the epicenter, Pyrgos (pop. 22,400) 39 km away, Amaliada (pop. 16,800) 55 km away, and Kalamata (pop. 54,100) 56 km away.
