Two PhD Research Assistant positions are available in the Porous Media and Multiphase Flow (PMMF) Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NC State University. The projects are expected to start in January 2026.

The projects are Multiphysics in nature and are comprised of computational (~70%) and experimental (~30%) tasks. Project-1 is focused on developing a computational model to simulate coalescence of aerosolized droplets in porous media. Project-2 is focused on formulating electrostatic charge formation in porous media and studying its impact on capturing airborne particles.

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at NC State University has an enrollment of over 1,300 undergraduates and 400 graduate students. NC State’s location on Centennial Campus, combined with its proximity to the Research Triangle Park and neighboring universities, provides extensive opportunities for academic and industrial interaction and collaboration. The College of Engineering is ranked

Imagine concrete that not only survives wildfires and extreme weather, but heals itself and absorbs carbon from the air. Scientists at USC have created an AI model called Allegro-FM that simulates billions of atoms at once, helping design futuristic materials like carbon-neutral concrete. This tech could transform cities by reducing emissions, extending building lifespans, and mimicking the ancient durability of Roman concrete—all thanks to a massive leap in AI-driven atomic modeling.
