The Princeton Materials Institute (PMI) at Princeton University (https://materials.princeton.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in the general area of materials science and engineering, with a start date as early as September 1, 2026.  We encourage outstanding candidates from a broad range of backgrounds and disciplines in engineering and the natural sciences to apply.  The successful candidate will be jointly appointed between PMI and the academic department at Princeton best aligned with the candidate’s work.

U.S. developers report half of new electric generating capacity will come from solar

Developers added 12 gigawatts (GW) of new utility-scale solar electric generating capacity in the United States during the first half of 2025, and they plan to add another 21 GW in the second half of the year, according to our latest survey of electric generating capacity changes. If those plans are realized, solar would account for more than half of the 64 GW that developers plan to bring online this year. Battery storage, wind, and natural gas power plants account for virtually all of the remaining capacity additions for 2025.

Developers could set a record for capacity additions if all 64 GW come online this year. The previous record for U.S. generating capacity additions was set in 2002, when developers added 58 GW to the grid, 57 GW of which was fueled

Two Days Left To Apply For FEMA Assistance For Kentuckians Affected By May Tornadoes

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky homeowners and renters who suffered uninsured damage to their property from the May 16-17 tornadoes have two days left to apply for federal disaster assistance. The application deadline is August 22.

Eligible counties are Caldwell, Laurel, Pulaski, Russell, Trigg and Union.

Survivors are encouraged to file insurance claims for damage to their homes, personal property and vehicles before they apply for FEMA assistance. FEMA Individual Assistance cannot duplicate insurance benefits or other sources of assistance. 

How To Apply for FEMA Assistance

There are several ways to apply for FEMA assistance:

Online at DisasterAssistance.gov.Visit any Disaster Recovery Center. To find a center close to you, visit fema.gov/DRC, or text DRC along with your Zip Code to 43362 (Example: “DRC 29169”).Use the FEMA mobile app.Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. Help is available in many languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service. 

When you apply, you will need to provide:

A current phone number where you can be contacted.A current email address.Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.Your Social Security Number. A general list of damage and losses.Banking information if you choose direct deposit.  If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.

Survivors should keep their contact information updated with FEMA
