REQUIREMENTS:

A Doctoral degree in Civil Engineering (with a focus on Environmental Engineering) or Chemical Engineering (with a focus on Environmental Engineering) or a related field, is preferable. However, consideration will be given to exceptional applicants with a Masters degree (in the above fields) and potential to pursue a Doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering. Two PhD Research Assistant positions are available in the Porous Media and Multiphase Flow (PMMF) Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NC State University. The projects are expected to start in January 2026. 

The projects are Multiphysics in nature and are comprised of computational (~70%) and experimental (~30%) tasks. Project-1 is focused on developing a computational model to simulate coalescence of aerosolized droplets in porous media. Project-2 is focused on formulating electrostatic charge formation in porous media and studying its impact on capturing airborne particles.
