Just 34 minutes ago, a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Hato Mayor del Rey, Hato Mayor, Provincia de Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, at 9:46 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in El Valle (pop. 5,700) located 13 km from the epicenter, Hato Mayor del Rey (pop. 36,000) 16 km away, and Sabana de la Mar (pop. 14,000) 20 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bayaguana (pop. 21,100) located 40 km from the epicenter, Quisqueya (pop. 17,700) 40 km away, Sabana Grande de Boya (pop. 16,800) 53 km away, Boca Chica (pop. 46,300) 60 km away, Santo Domingo (pop. 2,201,900) 79 km away, and Santo Domingo Oeste (pop. 701,300) 87 km away.
