A magnitude 2.9 earthquake near Csongrad, Csongrad megye, Hungary, was reported only 5 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter early morning on Tuesday, July 8th, 2025, at 2:34 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tiszaalpar (pop. 5,100) located 8 km from the epicenter, Csongrad (pop. 18,600) 8 km away, Szentes (pop. 27,900) 19 km away, and Kiskunfelegyhaza (pop. 31,700) 20 km away.
