An earthquake of magnitude 3.2 occurred only 7 minutes ago 42 km southeast of Nantes, France, France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter near Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France, in the morning on Sunday, July 13th, 2025, at 8:17 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in La Boissiere-de-Montaigu (pop. 1,700) located 3 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Les Herbiers (pop. 15,700) located 16 km from the epicenter, Cholet (pop. 53,200) 29 km away, La Roche-sur-Yon (pop. 59,400) 33 km away, and Vertou (pop. 22,900) 34 km away.
