A magnitude 2.7 earthquake near Yonkers, Westchester County, New York, USA, was reported only 12 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 7.7 miles beneath the epicenter around noon on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, at 12:11 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hillsdale (pop. 10,600) located 2 miles from the epicenter, and Paterson (pop. 147,800) 7 miles away.
