An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred only 6 minutes ago 39 km southeast of Moyobamba, Peru, The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Moyobamba, Moyobamba Province, Region de San Martin, Peru, early morning on Sunday, July 6th, 2025, at 6:27 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Tabalosos (pop. 14,700) located 10 km from the epicenter, and Tabaloslos (pop. 7,300) 16 km away.
In Lamas (pop. 13,700) located 28 km from the epicenter, Moyobamba (pop. 50,100) 39 km away, La Banda (pop. 24,900) 50 km away, and Rioja (pop. 25,100) 53 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Yurimaguas (pop. 41,800) located 84 km from the epicenter, and Juanjui (pop. 37,700) 97 km away.
