The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 3.5 quake in El Salvador near Acajutla, Departamento de Sonsonate, only 13 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, at 11:05 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Acajutla (pop. 22,800, 57 km away), La Libertad (pop. 16,900, 73 km away), Sonzacate (pop. 15,400, 74 km away), and Izalco (pop. 19,200, 76 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
