A magnitude 2.8 earthquake near Merredin, Western Australia, Australia, was reported 32 minutes ago by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Australia. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5.5 miles beneath the epicenter in the morning on Thursday, July 10th, 2025, at 9:49 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.8 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include South Yelbeni (pop. 29) located 5 miles from the epicenter, and South Trayning (pop. 42) 7 miles away. In North Kellerberrin (pop. 39, 13 miles away), North Baandee (pop. 40, 14 miles away), North Tammin (pop. 120, 16 miles away), Kellerberrin (pop. 960, 22 miles away), Wyalkatchem (pop. 400, 22 miles away), Tammin (pop. 190, 26 miles away), and Merredin (pop. 2,900, 35 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
