An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred early evening on Friday, July 18th, 2025, at 6:12 pm local time near Amahai, Kabupaten Maluku Tengah, Maluku, Indonesia, as reported by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 88. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Masohi (pop. 36,400) located 102 km from the epicenter, and Amahai (pop. 47,700) 104 km away.
