Small 2.9 quake hits near Argostoli, Kefallonia, Ionian Islands, Greece

Just 10 minutes ago, a 2.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Argostoli, Kefallonia, Ionian Islands, Greece. The tremor was recorded early evening on Friday, July 18th, 2025, at 6:38 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.7. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 2.8, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Farsa (pop. 220) located 3 km from the epicenter, and Dilinata (pop. 720) 4 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Faraklata (pop. 1,100) located 7 km from the epicenter, Lixouri (pop. 3,800) 7 km away, Argostoli (pop. 9,800) 8 km away, Valsamata (pop. 1000) 12 km away, Sami (pop. 1,300) 14 km away, and Ithaki
