If you are located in this coastal area, move off the beach and out of harbors and marinas. Tsunami advisories mean that a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or waves dangerous to persons in or very near the water is expected or is already occurring. Areas in the advisory should not expect widespread inundation. Tsunamis are a series of waves dangerous many hours after initial arrival time. The first wave may not be the largest. At 425 PM Pacific Daylight Time on July 29 an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 8.8 occurred 80 miles southeast of Petropavlovsk Kamchatka. At 618 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms near Vernon Valley, or near Warwick, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD…Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include… Newburgh, Middletown, Walden, Warwick, Goshen, New Windsor, Gardnertown, Chester, Montgomery, Florida, Unionville, Kiryas Joel, Scotchtown, Orange Lake, and Mechanicstown.
