An earthquake of magnitude 2.7 occurred early morning on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, at 4:52 am local time near Zadar, Town of Zadar, Zadar County, Croatia, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 3.30 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 3.6, Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) at magnitude 3.1, and The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) at magnitude 3.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Jesenice (pop. 150) located 7 km from the epicenter, Starigrad (pop. 1,100) 10 km away, Posedarje (pop. 1,300) 11 km away, and Pridraga (pop. 1,300) 16 km away. In Gracac (pop. 2,100, 22 km away), Benkovac (pop. 2,500, 29 km away),

Just 8 minutes ago, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck near La Breita, Sullana Province, Piura, Peru. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at 9:07 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the Institute of Geophysics of the National Polytechnic School in Quito (IGEPN), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Papayal (pop. 5,500) located 16 km from the epicenter, Mancora (pop. 9,100) 22 km away, and La Breita (pop. 17,700) 25 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Talara (pop. 99,100) located 75 km from the epicenter, Zarumilla (pop. 16,900) 88 km away, Querecotillo (pop. 25,400) 93 km away, Marcavelica (pop. 25,600) 96 km away, Sullana (pop. 160,800) 99 km away, and Piura (pop. 484,500) 132 km away.
