The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.7 quake in the United States near Kent, King County, Washington, only 6 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Sunday, April 6th, 2025, at 8:15 am local time at a very shallow depth of 1.7 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.8 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Greenwater (pop. 67) located 7 miles from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Maple Valley (pop. 25,700) located 30 miles from the epicenter, Auburn (pop. 77,000) 35 miles away, Kent (pop. 127,000) 37 miles away, Kent (pop. 127,000) 37 miles away, Federal Way (pop. 95,200) 39
