Just 8 minutes ago, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday, April 18th, 2025, at 3:48 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 149. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.6.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Curiti (pop. 11,700) located 18 km from the epicenter, Piedecuesta (pop. 163,400) 26 km away, San Gil (pop. 46,200) 26 km away, Malaga (pop. 19,900) 31 km away, Floridablanca (pop. 267,600) 35 km away, Giron (pop. 108,500) 39 km away, Bucaramanga (pop. 581,100) 42 km away, and Socorro (pop. 30,000) 43 km away.
