An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 8 minutes ago 109 km northwest of Galela, Indonesia, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 59. km beneath the epicenter near Galela, North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, Indonesia, early evening on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, at 7:24 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Galela (pop. 8,800) located 109 km from the epicenter.
