An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred only 15 minutes ago 20 miles southwest of Hawkwood, Queensland, Australia, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles beneath the epicenter near Hawkwood, North Burnett, Queensland, Australia, early morning on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at 3:39 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Hawkwood (pop. 18, 20 miles away), and Wandoan (pop. 1,100, 39 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

A shallow magnitude 4.7 earthquake was reported in the evening near Kendari, Kota Kendari, Sulawesi Tenggara, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Friday, May 9th, 2025, at 9:14 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kendari (pop. 345,100) located 97 km from the epicenter, Katobu (pop. 31,900) 99 km away, and Raha (pop. 70,000) 100 km away.
