A shallow magnitude 5.0 earthquake was reported early evening near Kinablangan, Davao Oriental, Davao, Philippines.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Tuesday, June 10th, 2025, at 6:43 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.7.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kinablangan (pop. 5,400) located 106 km from the epicenter, Taytayan (pop. 6,900) 110 km away, Baganga (pop. 10,100) 110 km away, Cateel (pop. 6,600) 113 km away, and Lingig (pop. 6,400) 115 km away.
