The citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported a magnitude 4.8 quake in the Dominican Republic near Nagua, Provincia Maria Trinidad Sanchez, only 19 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025, at 10:50 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Las Terrenas (pop. 7,700) located 37 km from the epicenter, Nagua (pop. 33,900) 43 km away, Sabana Grande de Boya (pop. 16,800) 82 km away, San Francisco de Macoris (pop. 124,800) 84 km away, and Cotui (pop. 41,600) 92 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Salcedo (pop. 45,300) located 97 km from the epicenter, Monte Plata (pop. 15,500) 97 km away, and Bayaguana (pop. 21,100) 100 km away.
