The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported a magnitude 3.8 quake in Greece near Rhodes, Dodecanese, South Aegean, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, at 10:29 am local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.0 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 3.6, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.9, and The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 3.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Archangelos (pop. 5,400) located 3 km from the epicenter, Afantou (pop. 5,600) 11 km away, Faliraki (pop. 6,000) 17 km away, Maritsa (pop. 1,800) 18 km away, Koskinou (pop. 4,900) 23 km away, and Paradeisi
