Just 3 minutes ago, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Volos, Magnesia, Thessaly, Greece. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Thursday, June 12th, 2025, at 9:00 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Patitirion (pop. 1,600) located 42 km from the epicenter, Skopelos (pop. 2,900) 51 km away, Skiathos (pop. 5,200) 62 km away, and Neos Marmaras (pop. 3,200) 72 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Volos (pop. 86,000) located 98 km from the epicenter, and Nea Ionia (pop. 32,700) 99 km away.
