Just 13 minutes ago, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Midland, Midland County, Texas, USA. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday, May 2nd, 2025, at 3:58 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.8 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.8.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Lamesa (pop. 9,400) located 23 miles from the epicenter, Andrews (pop. 13,800) 25 miles away, Stanton (pop. 2,900) 31 miles away, Midland (pop. 133,000) 32 miles away, Seminole (pop. 7,400) 34 miles away, Big Spring (pop. 28,900) 42 miles away, Odessa (pop. 119,000) 44 miles away, and West Odessa (pop. 22,700) 47 miles away.
