An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred early morning on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, at 2:43 am local time near San Antonio, San Antonio Province, Region de Valparaiso, Chile, as reported by The National Seismological Center (Centro Sismológico Nacional, CSN) of the University of Chile.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 38. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in San Antonio (pop. 85,700) located 22 km from the epicenter, and Cartagena (pop. 16,900) 26 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Melipilla (pop. 63,100) located 34 km from the epicenter, El Monte (pop. 23,100) 55 km away, Talagante (pop. 51,800) 60 km away, Penaflor (pop. 65,500) 66 km away, Paine (pop.
