Just 9 minutes ago, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Valmy, Humboldt County, Nevada, USA. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Thursday, May 15th, 2025, at 12:06 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 6.2 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Valmy (pop. 37) located 28 miles from the epicenter, and Battle Mountain (pop. 3,600) 33 miles away. In Carlin (pop. 2,300, 45 miles away), and Winnemucca (pop. 7,900, 50 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
