The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.6 quake in Romania near Focsani, Municipiul Focşani, Vrancea, only 13 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, at 9:34 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 120.90 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a magnitude 3.9 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tulnici (pop. 5,800) located 18 km from the epicenter, Focsani (pop. 77,300) 44 km away, Targu Secuiesc (pop. 20,100) 47 km away, Ramnicu Sarat (pop. 38,500) 53 km away, Adjud (pop. 15,200) 56 km away, Tecuci (pop. 41,200) 63 km away, Brasov (pop. 253,200) 80 km away, and Bacau (pop. 171,400) 92 km away.
