An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred only 8 minutes ago 28 miles south of Pilot Point, Alaska, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 7.5 miles beneath the epicenter near Pilot Point, Lake and Peninsula, Alaska, USA, in the morning on Thursday, May 15th, 2025, at 9:01 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ugashik (pop. 12) located 27 miles from the epicenter, and Pilot Point (pop. 65) 28 miles away. In Port Heiden (pop. 98, 39 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
