Just 27 minutes ago, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Chaparral, Departamento de Tolima, Colombia. The tremor was recorded early evening on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, at 6:54 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 0. km below the surface.
The event was filed by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.9 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Roncesvalles (pop. 6,300) located 23 km from the epicenter, and Chaparral (pop. 20,000) 24 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rioblanco (pop. 19,100) located 32 km from the epicenter, Sevilla (pop. 43,700) 57 km away, Tulua (pop. 221,700) 65 km away, Anaime (pop. 25,700) 69 km away, Guadalajara de Buga (pop. 114,300) 70 km away, and Ibague (pop. 529,600) 85 km away.
