A magnitude 2.8 earthquake near Shepparton, Greater Shepparton, Victoria, Australia, was reported only 15 minutes ago by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Australia. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, at 6:02 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.9.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rushworth (pop. 1,300) located 6 miles from the epicenter. In Kyabram (pop. 7,100, 16 miles away), Tatura (pop. 4,500, 17 miles away), Rochester (pop. 3,000, 18 miles away), Tongala (pop. 1,900, 19 miles away), Mooroopna (pop. 7,700, 24 miles away), Shepparton (pop. 51,600, 27 miles away), and Echuca (pop. 13,900, 29 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

If you felt it, report it through our site or app right now!
