An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred 35 minutes ago 85 km southeast of Ponta Delgada, Portugal, the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 2. km beneath the epicenter near Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal, late at night on Friday, June 13th, 2025, at 10:07 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Agua Retorta (pop. 490) located 50 km from the epicenter, Senhora do Rosario (pop. 4,900) 55 km away, Ponta Garca (pop. 3,500) 61 km away, and Vila Franca do Campo (pop. 5,000) 65 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Lagoa (pop. 14,400) located 78 km from the epicenter, Rabo de Peixe (pop. 7,700) 82 km away, Rosto de Cao (pop. 7,900) 84 km away, Ponta Delgada (pop. 20,100) 85 km away, Arrifes (pop. 7,000) 89 km away, and Arrifes (pop.
