An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred around noon on Friday, June 6th, 2025, at 12:22 pm local time near Pátrai, Achaea, West Greece, Greece, as reported by The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 28.02 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Efpalio (pop. 5,500) located 5 km from the epicenter, Nafpaktos (pop. 13,400) 14 km away, Aigio (pop. 20,400) 20 km away, Pátrai (pop. 168,000) 29 km away, and Agrinio (pop. 46,900) 55 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Lamia (pop. 52,000) located 67 km from the epicenter, Livadeia (pop. 21,500) 78 km away, and Corinth (pop. 30,200) 100 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these
