An intermediate magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported early evening near Baturaja, Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ulu, Sumatera Selatan, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Sunday, June 22nd, 2025, at 6:56 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 106. km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Baturaja (pop. 134,800) located 78 km from the epicenter, Tanjungagung (pop. 53,100) 89 km away, Pagar Alam (pop. 70,400) 102 km away, and Lahat (pop. 65,900) 111 km away.
