Just 12 minutes ago, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Laoang, Northern Samar, Eastern Visayas, Philippines. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, at 5:36 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Cabodiongan (pop. 3,000) located 39 km from the epicenter, Salvacion (pop. 2,500) 44 km away, Palapag (pop. 8,300) 47 km away, Cabatuan (pop. 2,400) 48 km away, Laoang (pop. 16,700) 49 km away, Pambujan (pop. 10,800) 55 km away, and Gamay (pop. 9,100) 63 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Catarman (pop. 47,400) located 83 km from the epicenter.
