The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a magnitude 4.7 quake in the Philippines near Iloilo City, Iloilo, Western Visayas, only 8 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Monday, July 21st, 2025, at 10:13 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Tobias Fornier (pop. 2,900) located 24 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Hamtic (pop. 4,800) located 43 km from the epicenter, San Joaquin (pop. 4,900) 47 km away, Sibalom (pop. 7,300) 53 km away, and Miagao (pop. 8,900) 59 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Iloilo City (pop. 387,700) located 94 km from the epicenter, and Sipalay (pop. 24,000) 98 km away.
