The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 2.7 quake in Italy near Pozzuoli, Naples, Campania, only 22 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Friday, April 25th, 2025, at 8:28 am local time at a very shallow depth of 3.70 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), which listed it as a magnitude 2.7 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pozzuoli (pop. 81,200) located 2 km from the epicenter, and Monterusciello (pop. 29,100) 4 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Quarto (pop. 37,700) located 5 km from the epicenter, Pianura (pop. 57,800) 5 km away, Soccavo (pop. 45,300) 7 km away, Fuorigrotta (pop. 76,500) 7 km away, Marano di Napoli (pop. 49,900) 9 km away, Giugliano in Campania (pop. 80,300) 12
