Thu, 15 May 2025, 12:55 | BY: EARTHQUAKEMONITOR

An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred only 7 minutes ago 17 km east of Kulu, Turkey, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 18.70 km beneath the epicenter near Kulu, Konya, Turkey, early afternoon on Thursday, May 15th, 2025, at 3:46 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.9 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) at magnitude 4.8, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.7, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Kulu (pop. 47,000) located 17 km from the epicenter, and Sereflikochisar (pop. 44,100) 27 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kaman (pop. 28,600) located 50 km from
