A magnitude 3.0 earthquake near Le Puy-en-Velay, Haute-Loire, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France, was reported only 7 minutes ago by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a great depth of 456.70 km beneath the epicenter in the afternoon on Thursday, June 19th, 2025, at 5:07 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Chambon-le-Château (pop. 320, 4 km away), Saugues (pop. 2,300, 13 km away), Vals-pres-le-Puy (pop. 3,800, 23 km away), Espaly-Saint-Marcel (pop. 4,000, 23 km away), Le Puy-en-Velay (pop. 22,700, 24 km away), Brives-Charensac (pop. 4,700, 27 km away), Mende (pop. 14,800, 43 km away), and Firminy (pop. 17,900, 74 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
