Just 8 minutes ago, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Cilacap, Cilacap Regency, Provinsi Jawa Tengah, Indonesia. The tremor was recorded late at night on Monday, June 9th, 2025, at 11:55 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 56. km below the surface.
The event was filed by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Cilacap (pop. 257,000) located 46 km from the epicenter, Sidareja (pop. 30,300) 61 km away, Wangon (pop. 35,500) 67 km away, Banyumas (pop. 48,400) 85 km away, Purwokerto (pop. 230,200) 88 km away, Sokaraja (pop. 66,500) 88 km away, and Ciamis (pop. 109,800) 89 km away.
