A magnitude 5.1 earthquake near Usulutan, Departamento de Usulutan, El Salvador, was reported only 9 minutes ago by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 57. km beneath the epicenter early morning on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, at 5:57 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Puerto El Triunfo (pop. 19,100) located 31 km from the epicenter, Usulutan (pop. 51,900) 34 km away, San Rafael Oriente (pop. 19,100) 38 km away, Santiago de Maria (pop. 15,000) 49 km away, Cojutepeque (pop. 48,400) 94 km away, Soyapango (pop. 329,700) 109 km away, and San Salvador (pop. 526,000) 111 km away.
