The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.1 quake in the United States near Jackson, Teton County, Wyoming, only 23 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Thursday, April 17th, 2025, at 11:07 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 2.4 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Jackson (pop. 10,500) located 10 miles from the epicenter, South Park (pop. 1,700) 12 miles away, Rafter J Ranch (pop. 1,100) 13 miles away, Moose Wilson Road (pop. 1,800) 15 miles away, Wilson (pop. 1,500) 16 miles away, and Hoback (pop. 1,200) 17 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Victor (pop. 2,000) located 29 miles from the epicenter, and
