An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 9 minutes ago 98 km southeast of Santiago, Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Santiago, Isabela, Cagayan Valley, Philippines, early afternoon on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, at 2:12 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Dicamay (pop. 2,400) located 59 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Mariano (pop. 12,400) located 77 km from the epicenter, Maddela (pop. 9,800) 79 km away, Aglipay (pop. 30,700) 83 km away, Alicia (pop. 24,700) 87 km away, Santiago (pop. 108,400) 98 km away, and Ilagan (pop. 72,400) 100 km away.
