Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) reported a magnitude 2.8 quake in Australia near York, Western Australia, only 20 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Sunday, May 25th, 2025, at 8:31 am local time at a very shallow depth of 0.6 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 2.8 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Dulbelling (pop. 51) located 6 miles from the epicenter, and Quairading (pop. 640) 8 miles away. In Cunderdin (pop. 890, 22 miles away), Beverley (pop. 1,100, 22 miles away), York (pop. 2,500, 30 miles away), and Northam (pop. 6,500, 41 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
