A magnitude 3.7 earthquake near Irakleion, Heraklion, Crete, Greece, was reported only 13 minutes ago by The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Friday, May 30th, 2025, at 3:41 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pyrgos (pop. 1,100) located 10 km from the epicenter, and Arkalochori (pop. 3,500) 21 km away.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred only 8 minutes ago 36 km southeast of Irakleion, Greece, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter near Irakleion, Heraklion, Crete, Greece, early afternoon on Friday, May 30th, 2025, at 3:40 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.2, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.6, The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 4.2, and The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 4.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Pyrgos (pop. 1,100) located 10 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt
