An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred only 28 minutes ago 35 miles northeast of Valmy, Nevada, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3.9 miles beneath the epicenter near Valmy, Humboldt County, Nevada, USA, after midnight on Thursday, May 15th, 2025, at 12:08 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Valmy (pop. 37) located 35 miles from the epicenter. In Battle Mountain (pop. 3,600, 40 miles away), Carlin (pop. 2,300, 47 miles away), and Winnemucca (pop. 7,900, 55 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
