At 500 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Lemont to near Elwood to near Pontiac. Movement was east at 40 mph. HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include… Frankfort Square, Preston Heights, Orland Hills, Limestone, Channahon, Crestwood, Elwood, Calumet City, Manteno, Glenwood, Aroma Park, Palos Park, Godley, East Hazel Crest, Romeoville, Chicago Heights, Manhattan, Matteson, Frankfort, and Country Club Hills.

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake near Tekirdag, Turkey, was reported only 5 minutes ago by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter around noon on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025, at 12:49 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) which listed the quake at magnitude 6.0. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 6.0, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 5.7, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 6.0, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 6.0.
Generally quakes of this magnitude are recorded by more than one agency and the results can vary, with subsequent reports that come in after the first one often showing more accuracy.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It
