Just 12 minutes ago, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Nyngan, Bogan, New South Wales, Australia. The tremor was recorded early morning on Saturday, May 24th, 2025, at 2:36 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Nyngan (pop. 2,200) located 53 miles from the epicenter, Coonamble (pop. 2,700) 65 miles away, and Walgett (pop. 2,100) 72 miles away.

Bourke (157.1 km WNW of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating / 5-10 s : Thought someone was at the house rattling the windows until someone a couple streets over called and asked if we felt it. | 3 users found this interesting.  

Dubbo (189.6 km SE of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) : 2.37am dubbo Felt an heard house shaking and creaking Lasted aprox 25seconds | 4 users found this interesting.  

Dubbo (495.7 km SE of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / very short : I was asleep on my couch and was woken suddenly, it felt like someone had lifted me up off the couch. The house rattled for a few seconds more.  

Dubbo, Nsw, 2590 (501.5 km SE of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating : Waoke me up from sleeping. Felt rocking/ vibrating. Heard windows, doors and a few other items quietly bannging, moving. Felt jittery/ uneasy afterwards
