Moderate 4.4 quake hits near Beylikduzu, Istanbul, Turkey

A shallow magnitude 4.4 earthquake was reported in the evening near Beylikduzu, Istanbul, Turkey.
According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the quake hit on Friday, April 25th, 2025, at 8:33 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.5, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.5, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) at magnitude 4.3, The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 4.5, and The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 4.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
