The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) reported a magnitude 5.9 quake in Turkey near Marmaris, Mugla, only 4 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, at 2:17 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 45.30 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.9 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Rhodes (pop. 56,100) located 21 km from the epicenter, Marmaris (pop. 33,700) 26 km away, Sarigerme (pop. 16,000) 43 km away, Ortaca (pop. 19,700) 53 km away, Mugla (pop. 92,300) 67 km away, and Fethiye (pop. 60,400) 79 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the
